So I am guessing that there are a lot of folks out there with questions about boudoir. Why do it? Why would you get naked in front of a stranger with a camera? How do they get up the courage? How are they comfortable sharing these images with the world? Is that what they really look like? Could I do it?
Let me tackle a few...
Why do it? For me, the question should be - why not? Our bodies are these incredible, amazing shells that take us through the world. They are the instrument that we use to demonstrate love, hate, and every other emotion. They give life, they create life, they allow us to live. Yet, the reality is, we spend a lot of time hating and abusing them. Boudoir is a way to take back your body and embrace it. Delight in the curves and contours that seduce the outside observer and never forget that we are more beautiful than we think we are at this very moment. In ten years, you will look back and think, "Why was I so hard on myself and why didn't I enjoy what I had at that time?" Boudoir reminds you of the strength, the power, and the beauty of your body, and makes a pretty awesome gift for a partner too ;)
Why would you get naked in front of a stranger? This one is a little bit tougher. Hopefully, you get naked in front of a stranger because they are an amazing and professional photographer. I think that having these types of photos taken by someone you don't know increases your ability to let go! You will probably never see me again, I don't know all your hang ups or body images, and I'm not judging. My sole reason to be there is to give you images that make you feel amazing about yourself. Sometimes that anonymity makes you less afraid!
How do you get up the courage? No idea! Let me know if you figure it out!
Is that what they really look like? Yes. I do not slim you down or fake your picture. It is you and all you. I don't believe in one version of body beauty - all shapes and sizes are attractive. All I do is try and encourage poses that are flattering to your face and figure and let you do the rest. Okay, I may take out the occasional pimple, but that's about it ;)
Could I do it? Yes, and you should! Check out the amazing blog by Jen at Plus Size Mommy Memoirs for their take on the six person boudoir shoot I did for them - http://plussizebirth.com/2012/02/a-boudoir-photo-shoot.htm
